Sausalito is situated near the northern end of the Golden Gate Bridge, adjacent to, and largely bordered by, the protected spaces of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. It is a coveted place to live and an international tourist destination. An historic downtown features yacht harbors, boutiques, art galleries, restaurants, cafes, and a boardwalk that offers stellar views of San Francisco Bay, Angel Island, Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the San Francisco skyline. Sausalito has been, and continues to be, home to many famous authors, painters, musicians, directors, actors and athletes. Annual events include a renowned art festival, jazz concerts, and a Fourth of July parade.
