Petaluma is the southernmost city in Sonoma County and serves as the county’s hub for art, music and festivals. Located 40 miles north of San Francisco, near the vineyards of Napa and Sonoma, the city boasts many distinguished, well-preserved pre-1906 buildings and Victorian and Queen Anne homes. A charming, vibrant downtown is on the National Register of Historic Places and packed with more than 130 restaurants, plus dozens of locally owned, unique shops. Situated on the Petaluma River, with a harbor adjacent to the downtown, water sports – kayaking, rowing, canoeing, stand-up paddling — abound in the area. The city owns more than 50 parks, including a regional park that offers 216 acres of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. Petaluma offers an ideal blend of both city life and rural living.
