Novato is the northernmost city in Marin County. It’s located 10 miles north of San Rafael and 30 miles north of San Francisco. With more than 3,600 acres of open space, the city has a rural atmosphere and is a haven for hikers, mountain bikers, bird watchers, fishing enthusiasts and campers. The city has two public golf courses, a huge skate park, and a network of 27 oak-studded parks. Many community events take place within the historic Old Town, including an annual art, wine and music festival; a classic car show in August; a seasonal Farmers’ Market; and a holiday tree lighting festival. Novato is home to the Buck Institute for Aging, one of the foremost nonprofit biomedical research institutes in the world to focus solely on aging and age-related conditions. The Novato School District is the city’s largest employer (1,300 employees).
