Students living in Los Feliz attend elementary through high school in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Although the district encompasses more than 1,100 schools, those in the immediate Los Feliz area include:
- One K-2 school;
- Four K-5 schools;
- Seven K-6 schools,
- One 6-8 arts and technology-based school; and
- One 9-12 public magnet school.
LAUSD has been divided into six “local” districts: Central, East, Northeast, Northwest, South and West. Los Feliz is located in the Central LAUSD district. LAUSD offers “neighborhood/resident schools,” within each local district, meaning children usually can attend schools near their home. You can view the designated resident school for any property using the Resident School Identifier tool at rsi.lausd.net. You can also search for your resident school via your home address with the district’s “SchoolFinder” tool.
However, since LAUSD offers both traditional and choice-based systems, students can choose to either attend a school within their neighborhood OR apply to any other school in the district offering specialized programs. These include Schools For Advanced Studies (SAS), charter schools, magnet schools, Open Enrollment schools, and schools located within Zones of Choice. You can search for schools and navigate the application process with the district’s e—choices tool at echoices.lausd.net.
It’s important that prospective residents contact the district to confirm attendance, boundaries, availability, and policies.
