Welcome to Hillsborough
Renowned for its wealth, Hillsborough prides itself on lovely winding roads lined with Pines, Redwoods and Eucalyptus. After the 1906 earthquake, many of the city’s wealthy descendants of mining and railroad tycoons built great mansions and estates in the semi-isolated town. Today’s residents include doctors, lawyers and executives. The landscape is dominated by large homes; the town zoning ordinances require a 2,500-square-foot minimum house size and minimum lot size of .5 acre. Hillsborough has no commercial zoning and thus no businesses within the town limits; the only non-residential properties are its four public and three private schools, town and county government facilities, a golf course, and a small park.
