Welcome to Brisbane

Brisbane is a small, coastal city of 5,000 residents in northern San Mateo County, nestled in the foothills of San Bruno Mountain at the southeast corner of the Guadalupe Valley. Straddling the border of southern San Francisco and northwestern South San Francisco, Brisbane is bordered on the east by the San Francisco Bay and on the west by Daly City. Brisbane is known for its friendly residents, small town vibe and stunning scenery. Locals often call it the “City of Stars,” because about 65 years ago, residents started a tradition of putting out large, illuminated stars leading up to Christmas and Hanukkah. Some are as big as 10 feet across, and man residents leave them up year-round, enhancing the community’s eclectic feel. Originally inhabited by Costanoan Indians, Franciscan missionaries moved into the area in the 1770s and instilled mission rule that would last for decades. Today, residents will find lots of fun recreational activities on the San Francisco Bay and nearby San Bruno Mountain, a short commute into the city and access to local employers such as IGN, Dolby, Sing Tao and Monster Cable Products.
