Almaden Valley (often just called “Almaden”) is an affluent, upper-middle-class neighborhood of about 37,000 in the southern portion of San Jose. Residents are often immediately attracted to its rural atmosphere. Almaden is a very family oriented community, with excellent schools, parks, open space, fabulous views and lots of recreational opportunities. Its informal borders are generally Coleman Road (north) and McKean Road (south), where the valley becomes most rural, and Los Gatos to the west. The valley is located between a small series of hills and the Santa Cruz Mountains, with Mount Umunhum dominating the local geography. Homes include historic, 19th-century bungalows, 1960s constructions, new developments, and large mansions favored by executives from Silicon Valley tech companies.
