Creating “Home” by Coming Home

Posted on

Unlike many families who need to dig in and explore the Chicago suburbs, Luxury Travel Consultant Brittney Magner and her husband Kevin knew exactly where they wanted to call “home:” their own hometown, Winnetka. “Kevin and I grew up in Winnetka,” Brittney says, “we actually met in high school!” From their own childhood experiences, the couple knew this was the best possible place to raise their growing brood of, now, four daughters ranging from 10 to 15. “And, yes, we love it!” she adds.

The Magner family isn’t alone. Each year, we see countless clients explore the Chicago suburbs and, ultimately, land in Winnetka. With a median home value approaching $1 million and “A” ratings for everything from low crime to walkability to quality of life, Winnetka often tops Chicago families must-see list. In 2018, the town’s public schools ranked #6 in the country and in the top 101 suburbs to live in from coast to coast.

After returning to Winnetka, Brittney dove into the local business scene, avidly supporting small shops and stores and exploring all the community had to offer—now with a focus on giving her girls the same suburban experience she and Kevin had loved so much. To Brittney, though, that included a new twist: building her clientele within Royal Travel, with an eye on the wants and needs of this affluent community. She worked closely with owners Larry and Kay Berke and, now, with Kendra Thornton who has since taken over the business.

“While growing up here,” she says, “my parents and their friends used travel agents for their trips. Winnetka—being an affluent town on the North Shore—offered a real niche for someone in the luxury travel space. When I met with the owners of Royal Travel, Larry and Kay…they hired me with no expectations. But, from day one, Winnetka has absolutely contributed to my success.”

Six years later, Brittney continues to build her business with Winnetka friends and neighbors at the core of this growth and evolution. “I pride myself on my clients and their referrals,” she says. And, of course, she loves to experience all this lifestyle—and her Winnetka lifestyle—has to offer. “I love to travel and experience new destinations with my family, and pass along to my clients what would be best for their families.” It’s a curated experience that, like the Suburban Jungle experience, helps clients explore on their terms without the chaos, clutter or added hassles and headaches. “And when I’m not traveling,” she says, “I love to shop!”
